Boron Production
Boron Production
Burah is produced by fusing natural borates with sulphur. Boric acid can be produced from boron minerals by treatment with sulfur acid, and boron trioxide by heating boric acid H3BO3. The impure, or amorphous, boron, a brownish-black powder, can be obtained by heating the trioxide with active substances, such as magnesium or sodium powders. Ordinary this boron is a brown-black amorphous powder. High-purity crystalline boron may be prepared by recrystallization; however the methods of melted fluoroborates electrolysis and the vapor phase reduction of boron trichloride or tribromide with hydrogen on electrically heated filaments are more industrious. Purest boron is prepared by the synthesized by pyrolysis of boranes and is used in semiconductor manufacturing.
